The Kerala government has, on Friday, issued orders banning the preparation of mayonnaise using raw egg in the backdrop of  the finding that mayonnaise made of raw eggs, served along with the drilled chicken and dressings for sandwiches, was the cause for the food poisoning.

The Food Safety Department of the state government has issued an order banning the preparation of mayonnaise using raw egg with immediate effect. The decision came after several incidents of food poisoning have been reported in the state, after consuming chicken dishes.

Testing of food samples found that mayonnaise made of raw eggs, served along with the drilled chicken and dressings for sandwiches, was the cause of the food poisoning.

The food safety department has asked hotels to use only pasteurised egg for making egg mayonnaise.
