Shibu Baby John, leader of the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) and a key figure in the United Democratic Front (UDF), has filed a formal complaint with the Election Commission against Kerala Assembly Speaker AN Shamseer, alleging he held a roadshow for LDF’s Chavara candidate Sujith Vijayan Pillai in violation of the Model Code of Conduct.
In his complaint filed with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Kerala, Shibu Baby John said that despite holding a constitutional post that requires impartiality, Speaker Shamseer openly campaigned for a specific political front. The complaint also states that Shamseer’s participation in the campaign programme, even as the Assembly has not yet been dissolved, and his use of the stature or resources associated with the Speaker’s office for a partisan campaign, is a breach of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
Shibu Baby John has requested the Election Commission to ensure that constitutional heads do not participate in campaign activities that could influence the fairness of the April 9 polls.
