Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken on Friday demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on corruption charges in view of the Election Commission recommendation to disqualify 20 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislators for having held ‘office-of-profit’.

Addressing a press conference, Maken said the Delhi Congress would launch agitation all over Delhi to expose the corruption of AAP government. He said the Congress will hold a demonstration at Players’ Building, Delhi Secretariat, near ITO, next Monday, to demand Kejriwal’s resignation.

“All these, legislators who were appointed parliamentary secretaries, were getting facilities equivalent to ministers ~ like office vehicles, staff, office space and other facilities. That was a clear-cut case of office of profit,” said Maken.

He remarked that Chief Minister was allowed to appoint only one parliamentary secretary, attached to his office as per rules, but the AAP government appointed 21 parliamentary secretaries, thereby attaching three parliamentary secretaries to every minister.

“Delhi Congress had submitted a petition to the Chief Election Commissioner in June 2016 seeking the disqualification of the 21 AAP MLAs on the office of profit issue. Subsequently, one MLA, Jarnail Singh, resigned from the membership of Delhi Assembly. The Chief Election Commissioner gave enough time to these MLAs to explain their position on the issue, and hearing on the matter went on for nearly two years,” Maken recounted. Lashing out at Kejriwal, the Delhi Congress chief said that despite corruption charges, the Delhi CM had not resigned from his post.
