A lady Tehsildar, who had won ₹50 lakh on Kaun Banega Crorepati hosted by Amitabh Bachchan, has been arrested by the police on charges of embezzling around ₹2 crore of flood relief funds in the Sheopur district of Madhya Pradesh.
The officer, Amita Singh Tomar, has been accused of corruption for allegedly embezzling approximately ₹2 crore in government funds meant for relief payments to flood-affected people in Badoda Tehsil of Sheopur about five years ago, when she was posted there as Tehsildar.
At present, she was posted as the Tehsildar of Vijaypur in the same district. However, Sheopur Collector Arpit Verma had removed her from the post two days ago.
Since then, Amita Tomar had been at her home in Gwalior, from where the police arrested her on Thursday.
She was produced before a court in Sheopur, which remanded her to the women’s jail in Shivpuri.
Amita Tomar had earlier gained fame and recognition after winning ₹50 lakh as a contestant on ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati,’ the popular television quiz show.
