Just hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled rallies in Karnataka on Saturday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah issued a challenge on the lines of the ‘15-minute’ dare that the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are exchanging between themselves.

Siddaramaiah, who is countering the BJP tweet by tweet on social media, posted a message containing a video pointing at the series of corruption cases against BJP leaders.

“Dear PM @narendramodi avare, I am glad you have made corruption an issue in this Election because that is your weakest point,” wrote Siddaramaiah, adding, “You are making baseless allegations of corruption about our Govt.”

The Karnataka CM then threw down the gauntlet at PM Modi.

“Can you speak for 5 minutes on the ethics of using the Reddy Bros’ to win an election?” he asks.

The video carries forward the rest of the questions while listing out the names of some BJP leaders who have cases against them.

“When will you speak on your top 11 leaders facing corruption charges?” is a question posed in the video followed by names of top Karnataka BJP leaders such as B Sriramulu, G Somashekara Reddy, and former deputy CM R Ashok among others.

Through the video, the Congress again raised a question on the BJP’s decision to make BS Yeddyurappa, who has cases of corruption against him, the CM candidate.

The video ends with a ‘post script’ message aimed at the PM which reads, “P.S: You can refer to a paper for answers”. The message was a response to the PM’s dig at Congress president Rahul Gandhi during an election campaign on 1 May in the state.

Addressing supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Santhemarahalli, around 163 kilometres from Bengaluru, in Hindi, Modi took a dig at Gandhi’s claim that the PM won’t be able to sit in the Parliament for 15 minutes were he allowed to speak.

“Congress ke adhyaksh ji aapne sahi kaha tha hum aapke samne nahi baith sakte. Aap namdar hai. Hum kamdaro ki kya haisiyat ki aapke aage baith payen. (You were right, Congress president, we, who bank on our work, cannot sit before you. After all, what is our stature that we dare to sit before you who bank on their names),” said Modi.

The 67-year-old PM then threw a challenge at Gandhi, “I challenge you to speak for 15 minutes on the achievements of your government in Karnataka without reading from any piece of paper. You can speak in Hindi, English or your mother’s mother tongue.”

In response, Gandhi had on 3 May said that he won’t make a personal attack on Modi because he is the Prime Minister of India.

“He can say anything against me. I don’t care. He is the Prime Minister of India. I will never make any personal attack on him because I am a citizen of India,” he said.

“But I can ask questions. Questions PM Modi doesn’t answer,” added Gandhi.

Siddaramaiah has been relentlessly attacking the BJP over corruption and other issues.

While ‘welcoming’ the PM to Ballari on 3 May, the CM had said that PM Modi should not forget to mention the Reddy brothers’ “record”.

“As you arrive in Bellary, we look forward to hear your commentary on corruption. Don’t forget to mention Reddy’s record scam score of 35,000 cr & still not out,” said Siddaramaiah.

“With star players like Yeddy-Reddy, your score in Karnataka will be well short of 60,” he claimed referring to seats.
