Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan had a special birthday wish for Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Friday. Taking to Twitter, the chief of Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) also extended his support to the special status demand of the Andhra Pradesh government.

Naidu, the chief of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), began his one-day hunger strike in the morning to protest the indifference shown by the Centre with regard to AP’s demand for special status. He has been joined by the entire rank and file of the TDP at Amravati.

The 63-year-old Haasan said that he won’t be able to say the regular “many happy returns of the day” to Naidu, who turned 68 today, but added his special wish.

“Sir you have chosen your birthday to go on a fast for your state. I cant greet you with the regular many happy returns of this day ,but I can wish you success in your demand for the returns your state expects for your investment to the country @ncbn,” wrote Haasan, whose party is one of the most prominent ones to have cropped up within the last 12 months in Tamil Nadu’s fractured political mosaic.

Haasan has a very special place for Naidu. He has previously hailed the twice-elected CM of Andhra Pradesh for being a “conqueror, achiever”.

“He is one of my heroes in politics”, Haasan had once stated ahead of the launch of MNM.

Naidu’s protest will continue till 7 pm today and is intended to pressurise the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre to grant special status to the southern state.

Such has been the political turmoil over the issue that TDP decided to break away from the NDA following resignations of the ministers of the two parties in their respective governments.

But it is interesting to note that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, too, was among those who wished the CM a happy birthday.

“Birthday wishes to Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu Garu. I pray for his long and healthy life,” the PM wrote on Twitter while tagging the official handle of the Andhra CM who turned 68 today.
