At the executive council meeting held on Wednesday at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), it was decided to felicitate two of its noted alumni, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar during the third convocation to be held in August.

Nirmala Sitharaman did her master’s from the School of Social Sciences (SSS) and M. Phil from the School of International Studies at JNU in the 1980s.

S Jaishankar studied M. Phil and pursued his doctoral research from the School of International Studies and also specialised in nuclear diplomacy at the varsity during the 1970s.

“They will be the first-ever recipients of the Distinguished Alumni award to be conferred by the university,” said a statement from the varsity.
