Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Tuesday alleged that the BJP forced Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar out of office for supporting farmers, soldiers, and the Opposition, calling it an “unprecedented assault on democratic traditions.”
Addressing a press conference here, JMM central general secretary and spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya said, “Why was Dhankhar removed? Because he didn’t allow Adani to dominate parliamentary discourse. Because he wanted discussions on Operation Sindoor and the valour of Indian soldiers.”
He claimed the Monsoon Session began with an agenda favouring corporate interests, with the first discussion set on port privatisation allegedly benefiting Adani Group, instead of focusing on national security matters like Operation Sindoor.
Bhattacharya criticised the ruling party for boycotting the Business Advisory Committee meeting, calling it a first in India’s parliamentary history. “Neither the Leader of the House nor the Parliamentary Affairs Minister attended. This shows BJP’s contempt for parliamentary procedures,” he said.
Taking a swipe at former US President Donald Trump’s claim of preventing war between India and Pakistan, Bhattacharya questioned the government’s silence. “Trump says ‘I love Pakistan’ and hosts their army chief, while our PM avoids Parliament and speaks abroad,” he said.
The JMM leader also raised concerns over missing official records in Jharkhand related to name change applications, calling it a potential “name change scam” with serious implications for voter identity and citizenship.
He warned the BJP against manipulating democratic institutions and electoral rolls, stating, “No force can take away the voting rights of Jharkhandi citizens. We will resist every attempt to undermine democracy.”
Terming the Dhankhar episode a sign of BJP’s “internal frustration,” Bhattacharya added, “If Dhankhar must retire at 74, will the same apply to Modi and Bhagwat after 75?”
