Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Wednesday met the families of martyred constables Sunil Kumar Ram and Santan Kumar Mehta at his official residence in Ranchi and handed over financial assistance of ₹1.10 crore each. The aid was provided under the State Bank of India’s Police Salary Package scheme, with a total of ₹2.2 crore transferred to the families’ accounts.
Expressing sympathy, Hemant Soren said Jharkhand would remain indebted to its martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. He assured the families that the government would stand with them in every situation and help ensure their children’s education and well-being.
Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore, DGP Anurag Gupta, Palamu SP Rishma Rameshan, and senior SBI officials were present on the occasion. The Chief Minister directed officials to release all benefits, including pensions and employment, without delay. Both widows, who are graduates, will be appointed as clerks in the police department as per service rules.
Hemant Soren also announced that the government will establish a residential school in Ranchi to provide free, quality education to the children of martyred police personnel. Four acres of land within the Jharkhand Jaguar campus have been identified for the project. He added that a hospital dedicated to police personnel and their families is also being planned.
The announcements signal a shift toward long-term welfare measures for police families, particularly those affected by extremist violence in regions like Palamu. Officials said the total support for each family, including ex-gratia, pension, and service benefits, would amount to around ₹2 crore.
Reiterating his commitment, Soren said the state would always stand by the families of its martyrs and continue to honor their sacrifice with dignity and care.
