Jharkhand will make its first-ever appearance at the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos later this month, with Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday reviewing preparations for the January 18–26 visit that also includes an official outreach programme in the United Kingdom.
At a review meeting at the Chief Minister’s residential office on Kanke Road, officials briefed Soren on the itinerary and objectives of the 11-member state delegation that will attend the WEF annual meeting in Davos. The government termed the participation a milestone, coming as Jharkhand marks 25 years of statehood and seeks to position itself on global platforms for the next phase of development.
Officials said the delegation will use meetings and curated sessions at Davos to present Jharkhand’s mineral base, industrial ecosystem, tourism potential and investment opportunities, with an emphasis on sustainable development. Preparations across departments are in the final stages, they added.
Following Davos, the delegation will travel to the UK for engagements in London and Oxford focused on institutional, academic and investment collaboration, policy dialogue and interaction with the Indian diaspora. As part of the visit, the Chief Minister is scheduled to address the Blavatnik School of Government at the University of Oxford, with a lecture and Q&A session on governance and development.
The state government said the international outreach aims to attract investment, accelerate industrial growth and create employment, while building long-term partnerships with global institutions and investors. Soren directed officials to ensure coordinated and effective representation of Jharkhand’s priorities during the visit, underlining the importance of the programme from an investment and long-term development perspective.
Senior ministers, legislators and top officials, including the chief secretary and heads of industry, tourism, mining and tribal welfare departments, attended the review. The government has also launched a dedicated website to share updates on Jharkhand’s Davos participation.
