The winter session of the Jharkhand Assembly opened on Friday but was adjourned for the day after obituary references were read out for several eminent personalities who passed away recently. The House will reconvene on Monday and is scheduled to run until December 11, with five working days.

Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato said the second supplementary budget for 2025–26 and a set of government bills will be tabled during the session.

Although the opening day was brief, the build-up outside the Assembly signaled a politically charged week ahead. Lawmakers arriving for the session said they expected intense debate.

Rural Development Minister Deepika Pandey Singh told reporters that the government was prepared to answer all questions raised by the opposition. She said issues related to the Sarna religious code were central to the concerns of tribal communities. She questioned why the proposal, passed by the Jharkhand Assembly and sent to the Centre, had seen no movement. She added that members’ public-interest motions and key bills would shape the session’s importance.

JMM MLA Stephen Marandi said ministers had been instructed to furnish clear replies during Question Hour and that the government was ready for a substantive discussion on all matters raised.

BJP MLA Neera Yadav criticised the government, saying it had completed one year in office but had failed to deliver on its promises. She said the opposition would demand accountability during the session.

According to the schedule, the second supplementary expenditure statement will be presented on Monday, followed by discussion and passage on December 9, along with the Appropriation Bill. Government bills are slated for December 10, and any pending legislation may be taken up on December 11, the final day of the session.
