In a remarkable feat for Indian Railways and Jammu & Kashmir’s transport history, the Jammu–Srinagar Vande Bharat Express has crossed the one-lakh passenger mark within just 22 days of its commercial launch, underscoring its emergence as the Valley’s new all-weather lifeline.

Since commencing operations on 2 May, the indigenous semi-high-speed train has safely ferried over 1.01 lakh passengers, dramatically transforming travel between Jammu and Kashmir with speed, comfort and reliability.
After being flagged off by the Union Railway Minister on 30 April, 2026, regular operations of the train began on 2 May 2026. Since then, it has set a new benchmark of popularity among passengers.

Historically, travel between Jammu and Srinagar was dependent on National Highway 44, which often faced disruptions due to landslides and inclement weather. Over the past 22 days, the Vande Bharat Express has operated with excellent punctuality and 100% reliability, providing people with a safe and seamless all-weather travel option, said Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu, Uchit Singhal.

He said, “From the launch of services on 2 May till today on 23 May, carrying over one lakh one thousand fifty passengers in just 22 days is a moment of immense pride for the Northern Railway. This is not just a number, but a living testament to our commitment to providing world-class infrastructure to the people of Jammu & Kashmir.”

“We have received extremely positive feedback from passengers regarding the train’s comfort, safety, and hospitality. This train has put an end to the traditional fatigue of the Jammu–Srinagar route. Our entire focus remains on maintaining the highest standards of punctuality, immaculate cleanliness, and safety. We express our heartfelt gratitude to all passengers for making this service a success in record time. This proud achievement realises the dream of connecting the Kashmir Valley to the rest of India with a perennial all-weather rail link. It has not only boosted local tourism but also given the Valley’s apple and handicraft industries swift access to larger markets across the country,” Singhal added.
