Following the long standing demand of several right wing organisations, the Union government has approved the renaming of Jalalabad town in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur district to ‘Parshurampuri’.

Union Minister Jitin Prasada, who hails from Shahjahanpur district, thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah for granting approval for the name change.

He also expressed his gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, saying the decision has provided a moment of pride for the entire Sanatani community.

The minister also shared a letter Ministry of Home Affairs letter addressed to the UP Chief Secretary, that stated “Government of India has “No Objection” to the change of the name of town “Jalalabad” as “Parshurampuri” District Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh.”

Following the Home Ministry’s approval, the Uttar Pradesh government is expected to issue a Gazette Notification spelling the new name accordingly in Devanagri (Hindi), Roman (English) and Regional languages.

Earlier, former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti had suggested to Yogi Adityanath to change the name of Shahjahanpur.

“We should not continue the names of the city that showcase our slavery era,” she had commented.
