Jaisalmer bus fire: One more victim succumbs to burn injuries, death toll rises to 27

One more victim of the Jaisalmer Bus fire tragedy succumbed to his burn injuries at the Mahatma Gandhi Hospital here Saturday morning, taking the total toll to 27.

The Medical Superintendent of MG Hospital, Dr Fateh Singh Bhati, said that the injured passenger – Iqbal of Gangana village – died in the morning. Four passengers of the ill-fated bus are still being treated at the Burns Unit of the hospital, he said.

Two other victims have been shifted on the request from their families to Ahmedabad for further treatment, he added.

At least 21 passengers died and 15 others were critically injured when an AC sleeper private passenger bus travelling from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur in Rajasthan caught fire just 10 minutes into the journey on October 14.

According to an FSL report, the blaze was caused by a short circuit in the air conditioner.
