Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has criticized the government over the recent deal between the US and Pakistan for the supply of advanced medium-range air-to-air missiles made by Raytheon. The missiles, valued at $2.5 billion, will be supplied to countries including Pakistan, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Israel, and Turkey.

The move had come as a surprise, given that Pakistan was not included in a similar notification issued in May, which listed countries such as Canada, Taiwan, Bulgaria, and South Korea as recipients.

“How quickly the diplomatic climate changes, and how quickly diplomatic setbacks accumulate!” Jairam Ramesh said in a post on X, questioning the Modi government’s foreign policy.

The missiles are expected to be delivered by May 2030, and the work will be performed in Tucson, Arizona.

The development has sparked debate about the US’s intentions and India’s diplomatic efforts. Jairam Ramesh’s criticism underscores the need for a more nuanced approach to international relations, considering the complex dynamics at play.
