The Central government has conferred first prize of Rs 10 lakh to Pink City’s young architect Virendra Saini for designing the country’s new bus stop to come up on the National Highways in near future. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has agreed on Instagram that very soon the country will see such modern bus stops.

Deciding to make uniform bus stops on the National Highways in the entire country, the Centre organised a designing competition for standardisation of the design of bus shelter conducted by NHLML, NHAI and Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

The Council of Architecture under the Government of India selected Virendra’s architectural design with emphasis on stylish and attractive bus stops with a facility of toilets and setting up a cafeteria (tea stall).

Now a team of high-level engineers and the execution committee along with the government of India will outline the construction of the selected bus stops. This is a commendable step by the Centre, in which the NH travellers will see a bus stop with minimum maintenance, storage space, mobile charging, solar power, bio toilet, CCTV camera, advertisement hoarding, tea stall, drinking water Such necessary passenger facilities will be available, Saini told SNS.

Virendra, who completed his B Arch in 2004 with Honours from MNIT, Jaipur, said in addition to the guidelines given by the government, we have also made provision of public toilets for women, men and Divyangjan at bus stops, which are needed on the highway”.

A tea stall has been suggested for maintenance and cleaning of the bus stop, which is also a part of the “Swachh Bharat” campaign of the Government of India. This tea stall is found at almost every traditional bus stop in India. That tea seller keeps his surroundings clean. On the same lines, a small shop, at which general medical facility, first aid, helpline call, tea coffee and refreshment facilities are suggested.
