An all-party delegation headed by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday met Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti here in a bid to find a solution to the ongoing violence in the Valley.

The meeting took place at the Sher-e-Kashmir convention centre on the banks of the Dal lake. The delegation is scheduled to meet the state Governor later in the day.

The delegation is on a two-day visit to review the ongoing unrest in the Kashmir Valley where violent clashes have claimed 71 lives since the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani on July 8.

Apart from the Home Minister and Minister of State in PMO Jitendra Singh, top leaders part of the all-party delegation include Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, his Lok Sabha colleague Mallikarjun Kharge, senior Congress leader Ambika Soni, Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan (LJP), JD-U leader Sharad Yadav, CPI-M general secretary Sitaram Yechury and CPI leader D Raja among others.

The delegation will be holding talks with a cross section of Kashmiri individuals and organisations.

A meeting to brief MPs who will be part of the delegation was held on Saturday.

Despite the separatists calling for a boycott of the talks, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday invited the top separatist leaders for talks to find a resolution.

Mehbooba wrote letters to the leaders in her capacity as PDP chief, seeking their cooperation by engaging with the delegation.
