Army spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia confirmed that two terrorists have been killed and their assault rifles recovered from the encounter spot. Search operations in the area were on.

About 20 civilians were injured, five of them with bullet and pellet injuries, when a mob tried to obstruct the operation against the terrorists by pelting stones at the security forces who retaliated by opening fire to chase away the miscreants.

DGP SP Vaid said bodies of two terrorists have been recovered from the encounter spot.

The security forces, including the men of the Army, CRPF and J-K Police, had early in the morning cordoned the village after receiving inputs about presence of two to three terrorists in a house. Immediately after the news of the cordon spread, mobs of civilians reached there and indulged in heavy stone pelting at the security forces.

As soon as news about the encounter spread, a resident of Shopian, Mohammad Ishaq Naikoo, who believed that his son was also among the terrorists got trapped in the cordon, suffered a heart attack and died while being taken to the hospital. His son, Zeenat, had recently joined terrorists.

Meanwhile, a teenager Ubaid Manzoor (18), who was injured on 25 June during clashes with security forces in Baramulla, reportedly succumbed to his injuries at a Srinagar hospital on Tuesday.
