Two soldiers were injured after Pakistani troops fired mortar shells and from small arms on areas along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch and Rajouri districts, prompting authorities to close schools in some places.

Defence Ministry sources said the Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violations using small arms, automatics and mortar shells.

“Two soldiers were injured,” an official said. One of them, in Lam area of Rajouri, suffered sniper fire from across the LoC.

“Indian positions retaliated strongly. The injured soldiers have been shifted to hospital for treatment,” the official said.

The Pakistani attack started around 7 a.m.

Two mortar shells fired by the Pakistan Army landed close to the brigade headquarters in Poonch while another landed in a village.

Following the ceasefire violations, schools in several places along the LoC were shut for the day, they said.

These include schools in Degwar, Ajote, Malti and Karmara areas, they said.
