In the first incident of this type, a special police officer (SPO) of the Jammu and Kashmir police whom terrorists kidnapped from his house In Tral of south Kashmir on Friday was released safe and sound yesterday evening after his mother made passionate appeal on the social media to spare her son’s life.

The SPO Mudasir Ahmad Lone was abducted from his home in the Chantakar village in Tral area of Pulwama district. He was working as cook in the Police Lines at Awantipura and reportedly had no role in anti-terrorist operations.

Mudasir is the only kidnapped policeman who has in the past few years been released by terrorists after being kidnapped. Four police and Army personnel kidnapped during the past two months were brutally killed and later their mutilated bodies were found.

In the recent such incidents, police constables Saleem Khan and Javaid Ahmad were recently kidnapped in separate incidents and tortured to death by terrorists. Kidnapped and subsequent killing of an Army soldier, Aurangzeb, in South Kashmir last month had sent waves of anger throughout the country.

The Hizbul Mulahideen terror outfit had earlier this month warned all SPOs in Kashmir to resign their jobs within 15 days or face the consequences. Six SPOs have been killed by terrorists during the past seven months.
