J-K: Army Para-Commando, 4 terrorists killed in Shopian encounter

A Para-Commando of the Army and four terrorists were on Tuesday killed in a fierce encounter in the Nadigam area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Police said that the encounter began early morning when a joint team of Army’s paratroopers, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir police cordoned the area on the basis of inputs about presence of terrorists in Nadigam village.

The terrorists opened fire at the security forces, leading to an encounter.

“Four terrorists have been killed in the operation in Nadigam area of Shopian,” PTI quoted Srinagar-based defence spokesman, Col Rajesh Kalia said.

According to the reports, three soldiers have sustained injuries in the encounter.

The encounter was continuing and further details were awaited.

In a separate incident, Pakistan troops on Tuesday targetted the Indian Army’s Brigade Headquarters with mortars in the Degwar area of Poonch.

Two mortar shells fired by Pakistan fell near army brigade headquarters in Degwar area of Poonch district on early Tuesday following which the army retaliated.

It is learnt that two mortar shells landed near the army establishment at around 7:30 a.m.

There were no immediate reports about any casualty in the incident.

Meanwhile, an army official said that troops deployed in the Gulpur sector retaliated and responded to “ceasefire violation”.
