On his release from Sitapur jail, Samajwadi Party leader Mohammad Azam Khan said he would first get treatment before deciding his future strategy.
“I have never harmed even my enemies,” he said after spending nearly 23 months in jail. He left Sitapur jail with a convoy for Rampur.
While talking to the media on the way, the veteran leader said, “I have never harmed anyone, not even my enemies. No one can say anything bad about me. I cannot talk to anyone from jail.”
On a question about talking to Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav, he said he had never spoken to him. In the jail, Azam Khan told the media persons that he was not even allowed to make phone calls. He remained cut off from the outside world for five years. “Now that I am out, all I can say is that every leaf and every plant knows my condition,” he said.
It is noteworthy that Samajwadi Party National President Akhilesh Yadav, while expressing happiness over Azam Khan’s release from jail, said justice has been done to him today. Describing Azam Khan as a senior member of the Samajwadi Party family, he said all false cases against him would be dropped as soon as the SP government is formed.
Hundreds of supporters gathered outside the Sitapur jail, waiting for the SP leader to come out of jail. Azam Khan’s son, Adeeb, was also standing in wait outside the jail premises to welcome his father.
Prior to Azam Khan’s release, the Sitapur district administration had imposed prohibitory orders in the area under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS) to prevent any untoward incident.
