On International Women’s Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will expand the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative from the current 161 districts to 640 more districts.

The special programme will take place in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan that attained a remarkable achievement from having the worst sex ratio at birth among state districts to attaining minimum gender gap.

According to the 2011 census, the ratio was 837 girls per 1,000 boys. After seven years, the sex ratio is 955 girls per 1,000 boys.

Jhujhunu has led from the front in converting BBBP campaign, which was launched by Modi in 2015 at Panipat in Haryana, into a revolution.

“Tomorrow’s programme in Jhunjhunu will also mark the expansion of the #BetiBachaoBetiPadhao movement,” Modi had tweeted on Wednesday.

“From 161 districts, the movement will transform lives across 640 districts. This will usher in a positive change in the lives of several girls and their families,” he added.

On the occasion, Modi will also launch the National Nutrition Mission ICDS Common Application Software nationwide.

“Tomorrow, on International Women’s Day, I look forward to visiting Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan to mark the start of the National Nutrition Mission,” Modi had said.

This mission strives to reduce under-nutrition and low birth weight, bring down anaemia among young children, women and adolescent girls and to reduce the prevalence of stunting among children.
