An argument between residents of a housing society turned violent when three members of a family travelling in a car crushed a woman to death and injured another woman in the Indore city of Madhya Pradesh.
According to police, the incident occurred in the Shiv Vatika Township in Lasudiya area.
The accused, Kuldeep Chaudhary, owns a penthouse on the seventh floor of the building. It is alleged that he had rented it out for commercial purposes.
Other residents had been opposing the commercial use of the residential apartment.
Late on Wednesday night, the residents and Chaudhary again entered into a heated argument. Chaudhary called his son Mohit (18) to the spot, which led to a physical altercation.
Subsequently, the Chaudhary family, including Kuldeep, his wife, and son Mohit, got into their Swift car.
Mohit, who was driving the car, allegedly he sped towards a group of residents standing on the road.
Some of them escaped, but a woman, Shampa Pandey (42), could not, and the car hit her, causing her to fall. The car driver did not stop and ran the car over her, resulting in critical head and stomach injuries.
The car also hit Ranu Rawat (40), the building watchman’s wife, but she luckily did not sustain serious injuries.
Shampa Pandey was rushed to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries during treatment. She was a software engineer with Infosys and had moved into the apartment with her husband and two young daughters on 13 March.
Parts of the incident were captured on CCTV cameras.
According to ACP Parag Saini, the police have arrested Kuldeep and his son Mohit, and further investigation is underway.
