IndiGo on Sunday launched new direct flights from Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad, connecting nine major cities of India which are Bengaluru, Kolkata, Varanasi, Goa, Patna, Chennai, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Indore.

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu launched the new flight routes from Hindon Airport.

The flights offer convenient travel options for millions of residents in Ghaziabad, Noida, East and Central Delhi, and parts of Western Uttar Pradesh, the airline said in a statement.

After Air India Express, IndiGo becomes the second airline to mark its presence in Hindon Airport in the NCR. Four months ago, Air India Express started its operations here.

“This is an (Udan) success of Hindon, Ghaziabad, western Uttar Pradesh, and the entire country. This is an Udan of the ambitions and aspirations of common Indians,” the Minister said at Hindon airport.

Airlines’ fleet, airports, terminal capacity, and flyers have doubled in India over the past decade, the minister said, reflecting the growth India’s civil aviation sector has made. “During 2024-2034, civil aviation in tier II and III cities will grow and we will have to unlock the potential. Hindon will serve as an example,” the minister said.

“We are committed to enhancing the aviation infrastructure across India to enable seamless and convenient service connecting the smallest towns in the country with the growing cities and metros,” he said.

“The Hindon Airport developed, under the UDAN Scheme in Ghaziabad, is offering the convenience of proximity to people living in Ghaziabad, Noida and Western UP. With the growing connectivity and passenger footfall at Hindon, we are working for the expansion of the terminal building,” the minister added.

The civil aviation minister described the launch of IndiGo’s operations from Hindon airport as a significant milestone in enhancing regional connectivity and would strengthen the Indian aviation infrastructure.

With operations from both Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) and Hindon Airport (HDO), flyers based out of the National Capital Region will be served by these two airports.

The Hindon Airport’s development work was taken up in 2019 under UDAN at Rs 50 crore, in collaboration with Indian Air Force, Minister Naidu said in his address today.

The minister, during his speech, said the annual flyers from Hindon Airport was about 8,000 in 2019, which has risen to upwards of 80,000 now.
