Civil Aviation Minister addresses IndiGo crisis in Rajya Sabha
Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu told the Rajya Sabha that the ongoing IndiGo crisis stemmed from issues in the airline’s crew-rostering and internal planning systems. He said strict Civil Aviation Requirements (CARs) are already in place to protect passengers facing delays and cancellations, and operators are bound to follow them. On the software-related concerns, the minister said an inquiry is underway, adding that continuous technological upgrades are routine in the aviation sector, and the government’s vision is to push India’s aviation standards to the top global levels.
Thiruvananthapuram sees minor IndiGo disruptions
IndiGo reported five cancellations so far at the city airport (2 arrivals and 3 departures), according to the Thiruvananthapuram Airport PRO. Flights operated till now include 1 arrival and 2 departures, the PRO added.

Delhi Airport issues fresh advisory as delays persist
Delhi Airport said IndiGo flights “may continue to experience delays” and advised passengers to check flight status before heading out.
Airport authorities said teams were “working closely with all stakeholders to minimise disruptions and ensure a smooth travel experience”. Assistance, including medical support, is available at information counters across the terminal, they added.
The airport also reminded travellers that multiple public transport options, including metro, buses and cabs, were operating normally. For real-time updates, passengers were directed to the official website.

IndiGo refunds touch Rs 610 crore; fare caps bring down surge: MoCA
The Ministry of Civil Aviation earlier said IndiGo had processed Rs 610 crore in refunds following strict directives requiring all pending payments for cancelled or severely delayed flights to be cleared by 8 pm on Sunday.
No additional fees are permitted for rescheduling travel impacted by disruptions, the ministry noted. Dedicated support cells have been set up to help passengers with refunds and rebooking.
The ministry said overall performance had “shown steady improvement”, with schedules moving back toward normal. After a spike in fares due to cancellations, the government introduced an immediate fare cap, which it said has already moderated prices on affected routes.
IndiGo directed to clear baggage backlog
The government also instructed IndiGo to trace and deliver baggage separated from passengers within 48 hours, with continuous communication mandated throughout the process. As of Saturday, the airline had delivered 3,000 bags across India.
DGCA issues appeal to pilot bodies as fog season approaches
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation issued a formal appeal urging pilots and associations to extend full cooperation amid nationwide disruptions.
The regulator underlined that unpredictable weather, rising seasonal demand and heavy passenger loads were already straining operations. Such conditions are expected to intensify with the onset of fog and the holiday-marriage travel period.
Pilots were urged to help minimise avoidable delays, improve coordination with airlines, and ensure stability in operations.
“This appeal is made with deep respect for the essential role that pilots… play in India’s aviation ecosystem,” the DGCA said, reiterating its commitment to safety and implementation of FDTL regulations.
ALPA India responds, flags concern over fatigue rules
Following the DGCA appeal, the Airlines Pilots Association of India said it was “ready to fully support” DGCA and the Ministry of Civil Aviation in resolving the situation and assisting passengers.
However, it warned that rolling back revised FDTL norms would compromise fatigue protection and passenger safety, marking a key area of contention in the ongoing debate over crew duty hours.
DGCA grants IndiGo CEO a 24-hour extension
The regulator has granted IndiGo’s Accountable Manager and Chief Executive Officer a one-time 24-hour extension to respond to the Show Cause Notice issued on December 6 over large-scale disruptions and observed non-compliances.
