External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar arrived in South Korea on Wednesday for a two-day high-level visit, with India and South Korea focusing on expanding cooperation across key sectors and strengthening their Special Strategic Partnership.
Soon after reaching Seoul, Jaishankar met his South Korean counterpart Cho Hyun and held discussions on bilateral cooperation, including areas such as trade, defence, technology, clean energy and people-to-people ties.
Sharing details of the meeting, Jaishankar said the discussions were built on the outcomes of South Korean President Lee Jae-myung’s visit to India earlier in April, where both sides agreed on the Joint Strategic Vision for implementing and adding further content to the India-ROK Special Strategic Partnership during 2026-2030.

Modi-Lee meeting set momentum
The visit follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian, France.
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed ways to deepen cooperation in trade, commerce and future-oriented sectors.
After meeting PM Modi, Lee Jae-myung said in a post on X that both nations were looking to expand collaboration.
“Prime Minister Modi and I have agreed to strengthen cooperation in all aspects–economic, cultural, and social–between Korea and India going forward, and to develop our two countries into a new relationship,” Myung said.
Diplomatic outreach continues
Before arriving in South Korea, Jaishankar visited Mongolia as part of a broader four-day diplomatic tour covering Mongolia and South Korea.
During his visit to Ulaanbaatar, Jaishankar called on Mongolian President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa and conveyed official greetings from President Droupadi Murmu and PM Modi.
Jaishankar also highlighted the growing momentum in India-Mongolia relations following President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa’s visit to India last year.
In a post on X, Jaishankar said, “Value his guidance on advancing our strong cooperation in a wide range of sectors. Fully agree with him that the greatest friendship is spiritual friendship.”
The visits to Mongolia and South Korea are aimed at adding fresh momentum to India’s partnerships with both nations.
