‘India, Slovakia moving forward in close coordination on global stage,’ PM Modi says in Bratislava, announces key MoUs


Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced a Memorandum of Understanding with his Slovakian counterpart, Robert Fico, on labour migration and digital technology, adding that an MoU on social security will be finalised soon.

Addressing a joint press statement in Bratislava alongside his Slovak counterpart Robert Fico, Modi said that the MoU will is set to enhance the mobility of professionals and skilled workers. He lauded it as a step towards “close coordination” on the global platform.

“India and Slovakia are also moving forward in close coordination on the global stage. We agree that all disputes and tensions should be resolved peacefully. Today, we announced an MoU on labour migration to enhance the mobility of professionals and skilled workers between our two countries. We will also soon finalise an MoU on social security,” he said.

An MoU, on digital technology was also exchanged between the two sides.

According to the PM, it will create new possibilities for cooperation between the two countries in “digital public infrastructure.”

Modi further expressed gratitude towards the establishment of an “India Chair on AI” at a Slovakian University.

The PM further extended a heartfelt invitation to the citizens of Slovakia to India, stating, “On behalf of 140 crore Indians, I invite you to visit India, and I am delighted that you have publicly accepted this invitation.”

India, Slovakia elevate ties to ‘comprehensive and strategic collaboration’

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi held delegation-level talks with his Slovak counterpart, in Bratislava during his visit to Slovakia, marking the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the European nation.

During the talks, both leaders agreed to elevate bilateral ties to a “comprehensive and strategic collaboration.”

“Today, we agreed with the Prime Minister to elevate the cooperation between India and Slovakia to be called a comprehensive and strategic collaboration,” Fico said.

The Indian delegation participating in the talks included External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Secretary (West) Sibi George and Additional Secretary in the MEA Puja Kapur.
