Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday described the 12 years of the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre as an era of transformative governance, asserting that India has emerged as a stronger, more prosperous and globally respected nation under the Prime Minister’s leadership.

Addressing a press conference to mark the completion of 12 years of the NDA government and two years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third consecutive term, Majhi said June 9 holds special significance in India’s democratic history. He congratulated the Prime Minister on behalf of Odisha’s 4.5 crore people and praised his leadership in steering the country through multiple global challenges.

The Chief Minister said India has maintained a strong growth trajectory despite geopolitical uncertainties, including the Ukraine conflict and tensions in West Asia. He credited the Modi government with strengthening the economy, expanding infrastructure, promoting digital governance and enhancing India’s stature on the global stage.

Referring to the Covid-19 pandemic, Majhi said India not only developed indigenous vaccines and carried out one of the world’s largest vaccination drives but also extended support to several countries through the Vaccine Maitri initiative, reinforcing its image as a responsible global partner.

He said the country has made significant strides towards self-reliance in strategic sectors such as energy, technology and semiconductor manufacturing, while its firm stance against terrorism has strengthened national security and boosted global confidence in India.

Highlighting Odisha’s progress under the BJP government, Majhi said the state’s development has gained momentum due to close coordination between the Centre and the state under the “double-engine” governance model.

He pointed to major investments in railways, highways, ports and airports, including the proposed international airport at Puri, new port infrastructure projects and large-scale road connectivity initiatives. Odisha has also achieved 100 per cent railway electrification, he noted.

In the agriculture sector, the Chief Minister said lakhs of farmers are benefiting from PM-KISAN and other initiatives promoting millet cultivation, fisheries and cooperative development. He also highlighted programmes aimed at empowering women, including Lakhpati Didi and PM Matru Vandana Yojana.

Majhi said Odisha has registered notable progress in housing, drinking water supply, sanitation, tribal welfare, healthcare, education and skill development. He cited the implementation of Ayushman Bharat, expansion of medical and nursing colleges, promotion of renewable energy and improvements in urban infrastructure as key achievements.

Stating that the Modi government’s guiding principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas” has ensured inclusive development, Majhi said the benefits of welfare schemes are now reaching the poorest sections of society.

He reaffirmed Odisha’s commitment to building a prosperous and self-reliant state by 2036 and contributing to Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047.
