India, China note progress towards ‘gradual normalisation’ of ties: MEA


India and China have noted “progress towards the gradual normalisation of ties” during discussions held between National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval and visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in New Delhi, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) informed on Tuesday.

NSA Ajit Doval and Wang Yi met on the sidelines of the BRICS National Security Advisers’ Meeting in New Delhi on Monday. During their discussions, the two neighbouring countries reviewed recent developments in bilateral relations and noted progress towards the gradual normalisation of ties.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong, and other officials were present during the meeting.

Addressing his weekly media briefing here, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the discussions between NSA Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi were “forward-looking” and “constructive”.

“There was a meeting yesterday between the National Security Adviser and CPC Politburo Member and Foreign Minister of China, His Excellency Wang Yi. As we mentioned in our readout, the two sides reviewed recent developments in bilateral relations and noted progress towards the gradual normalisation of ties,” the MEA spokesperson said.

“The National Security Adviser underlined that stable, predictable, and constructive bilateral relations contribute to building trust and better understanding between the two sides. These discussions were forward-looking and constructive,” Jaiswal stated.

India hosted the BRICS National Security Advisers’ Meeting on June 22–23 in New Delhi. The meeting was chaired by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval.

During the meeting, the National Security Advisers/Heads of Delegation of BRICS member countries exchanged views on the theme, ‘Non-Traditional Security Challenges Confronting the World Today.’

They also discussed the rapidly evolving nature of national security challenges, as well as the role of new technologies in emerging security threats.

The National Security Advisers/Heads of Delegation also reviewed the outcomes of the recently held BRICS Joint Working Groups on Counter-Terrorism and on Security in the Use of Information and Communication Technologies.
