Two farmers commit suicide in Andhra
KARIMNAGAR (AP), 8 JUNE: Two debt-ridden farmers allegedly committed suicide in Andhra Pradesh, police said today. The suicides were reported yesterday from separate villages. Vangapalli Lingaiah, 47, a farmer of Venkatraopet village in Konaraopet mandal, had raised cotton crop by taking seven acres of land on lease. For this he borrowed about Rs 2 lakh from private financiers. In the second incident, Bendrapu Ella Reddy, an agriculturist of Tangallapalli village, hanged himself in his house. The 45-year-old had also raised cotton crop in two acres but failed to get the expected yield. pti
Maoist camp busted
NUAPADA (Odisha), 8 JUNE: A Maoist camp was busted and a tiffin box bomb and some detonators were seized by security personnel in Odisha’s Nuapada district, official sources said today. The temporary Maoist camp was spotted during intensive combing operation by CRPF personnel at the Komna area during the week, CRPF Commandant Ram Singh said.
The camp was destroyed during the combing operation at Patpani village on Nuapada-Bolangir border during the week and was later extended to Kushapali area, he said. However, no ultra was nabbed as they are suspected to have fled on receiving prior information about the movement of the security forces, the sources added. pti
Anna Hazare to start UP tour
LUCKNOW, 8 JUNE: Social activist Anna Hazare would start a tour of Uttar Pradesh, the fourth phase of his Jantantra Yatra, on 23 June. Anna’s associate Ramdheeraj today said that the yatra, with the objective of uniting youth and farmers to make the country corruption free, would enter UP on the date after touring Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand. pti
