The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has again warned of heatwave conditions across the regions of Northwest and Central India for the next seven days.

According to IMD scientist Akhilesh Shrivastav, these conditions are likely to persist over the coming week — that is, for the next seven days.

On state-wise basis, heatwave warnings have been issued for Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, as well as the Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada regions of Maharashtra.

Shrivastav said that specific warning for warm nights has also been issued for West Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh.

“For the regions of West Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh, a specific warning for ‘warm nights’ has been issued; consequently, an ‘Orange Alert’ has also been issued for these areas,” he said.

Meanwhile, in parts of Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha, conditions could escalate from a standard heatwave to a ‘severe heatwave.’

In Odisha, hot and humid weather conditions are expected to prevail over the next 3 to 4 days.

The IMD forecast released on Sunday said that a ‘hot spell’ will prevail in the plain areas in North and North-Western India for the entire week.

“Heat wave to severe heat wave conditions are likely to prevail over plains of northwest India and central India during many days of the week,’ the MeT Department said.

Meanwhile, several states in the North-East, including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, are likely to face rainfall on May 18 along with lightning and thunderstorms, while heavy rainfall is likely in Arunachal Pradesh around the same period.
