In a major road rage incident, a couple travelling on a motorcyle along with their three-year-old child was allegedly assaulted by the occupants of a car in the Wagholi area of Maharashtra’s Pune.

The incident took place on Tuesday evening. In connection with the matter, police have registered a case against four individuals, including two women, IANS reported.

The action was taken by police after Shantanu Niranjan Shukla, 35, filed a complaint at the Wagholi Police Station. He is an engineer employed with a private company and a resident of Majestic City in Wagholi.

In his complaint, Shukla claimed that he along with his wife Vartika and their three-year-old son, Shivan, had gone to Decathlon, Wagholi, on Tuesday evening.

While they were returning home on their motorcycle at around 7 p.m., Shukla said that he took a U-turn at Soyrik Garden Chowk near Decathlon. During this time, a car approaching from the Kharadi side is said to have collided with their motorcycle.

As per the complaint, the family first requested the person driving the four-wheeler to drive carefully and slowly. However, those in the vehicle allegedly responded with verbal abuse. Further, Shukla claimed that they continued with abusive behaviour until his motorcyle reached Wagholi Chowk.

During this time, his wife even took a photograph of the vehicle. The complaint further alleges that when they reached Avhalwadi Phata Chowk, the car driver deliberately blocked the motorcycle’s path, which led the family to fall onto the road.

In his complaint, Shukla also claimed that one of the occupants of the car even threatened him and said, “I will finish you off right here”.

Further, he alleged that he was physically assaulted by them and during the scuffle, one of the occupants of the car allegedly struck his child on the face, causing injuries to his lip and resulting in bleeding, IANS reported.

As Vartika tried to intervene and stop the fight, two women in the car came out and started physically assaulting her by pulling her hair.

After the incident, the family reached the Wagholi Police Station to file a complaint. Initially, they were directed by police to seek medical treatment. After receiving treatment at IMAX Hospital in Wagholi, Shukla later lodged a formal complaint in connection with the incident.

Based on his complaint, a case has been registered under Sections 115(2), 351(2), 352, and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, as well as Sections 184, 119, and 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

People has initiated action against four persons, which included the driver of the WagonR, another male occupant as well as two women.
