Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Principal Secretary, Dr P K Mishra, on Wednesday inaugurated the centenary foundation week of the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad, emphasizing the institute’s crucial role in India’s journey toward becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Paying homage to IIT Dhanbad’s 100-year legacy, Dr Mishra praised its pioneering contributions to mining education and its ongoing support to key national institutions such as Coal India, ONGC, GSI, CMPDI, and NTPC. “This centenary is a testament to how sustained commitment to knowledge can drive positive social impact,” he said.
Dr Mishra linked the institute’s accomplishments to India’s broader developmental goals under PM Modi’s vision, highlighting advancements in digital payments, social protection, space exploration, and renewable energy. He underscored the critical role of India’s youth and innovation ecosystem in this progress.
Reflecting on the evolution of civil services, Dr Mishra lauded initiatives like Mission Karmayogi and the iGOT-Karmayogi platform, which have transformed capacity building for public servants through collaboration, adaptability, and continuous learning.
Looking ahead, he called on IIT Dhanbad to prioritize research in climate resilience, critical minerals, advanced manufacturing, and public welfare, while nurturing values of humility, teamwork, and ethics among its students.
Expressing confidence in the institute’s alignment with India’s national objectives, Dr Mishra added, “The next 25 years will shape how we harness knowledge and technology to build a proud, capable, and equitable nation.” He extended his best wishes to the faculty, students, and alumni for continued success.
