The south zone of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) organised a workshop at IIT Delhi on Wednesday aimed at improving solid waste management and promoting sustainability.
The workshop “From Segregation to Zero Waste: Action Workshop” was organised by MCD South Zone in collaboration with Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and renowned experts from various organisations took part in the workshop.
MCD Deputy Commissioner South Zone Dilkhush Meena, senior IIT officials, scientists, senior MCD officials, RWA representatives, students and a large number of dignitaries participated on the occasion.
On this occasion, the MCD launched the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Zero Waste Colonies and Zero Waste Institutions. The SOP provided structured guidelines for segregation, collection, processing, and monitoring of solid waste.
Dilkhush Meena gave the inaugural speech and highlighted the objectives of the workshop. In his address, he highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts among institutions, RWAs, and citizens to ensure successful implementation of the SOP.
He emphasised on the importance of waste processing at individual or community level.
During the event, the MCD also conferred the Zero Waste Institution Certification upon Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in recognition of its effective waste management practices
The workshop familiarised participants with best practices in solid waste management. Eminent speakers highlighted the challenges in waste segregation and community engagement.
The MCD reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening sustainable waste management practices across Delhi.
