The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and 39 Gorkha Training Center (39 GTC), Varanasi, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote mutual cooperation, knowledge exchange, and joint initiatives of national importance.
The MoU was signed by Prof. Rajesh Kumar, Dean (Research & Development), IIT (BHU), and Brigadier Anirban Dutta, SM, Commandant, 39 GTC.
Sharing details of the collaboration, Kumar explained that under this MoU, both institutions will share their expertise while ensuring that no confidential or restricted information or standard operating procedures (SOPs) are shared. This collaboration aims to strengthen technical, academic, and research ties, including knowledge exchange, use of facilities, and joint initiatives.
IIT (BHU) can leverage 39 GTC’s military expertise for research projects or studies related to defense and national security, while 39 GTC will receive consultation and technical guidance from IIT (BHU) faculty members, researchers, and students on specific technical and academic topics.
Key areas of collaboration include site visits, demonstrations and trials, project design and development, motivational visits for students, exchange of expertise at technical festivals and other events, Faculty Development Programs (QIPs), short-term courses and workshops, enrollment opportunities for higher education and research, startup incubation, and environmental and social initiatives.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Amit Patra, Director, IIT (BHU) said, “This partnership between IIT (BHU) and 39 Gorkha Training Centre reflects our commitment to contributing to the nation’s strategic and technological progress. By combining academic innovation with military discipline and experience, we aim to develop solutions that serve the nation and empower the spirit of self-reliance.”
Major General Amit Singh Sohal, VSM, GOC, Eastern Uttar Pradesh & Madhya Pradesh Sub Area, Prayagraj, commended the initiative, saying, “This collaboration between IIT (BHU) and 39 GTC is an excellent example of the convergence of academic excellence and military professionalism.
