A series of messages allegedly sent by Twisha Sharma before her death have surfaced, revealing what appeared to be growing emotional distress, loneliness and anxiety in the months after her marriage.
The 33-year-old woman from Noida was found hanging at her matrimonial home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12. Her death has now triggered protests by her family, a Special Investigation Team probe and allegations of dowry harassment against her husband Samarth Singh and his mother, retired district judge Giribala Singh.
Police said Twisha and Samarth had met through a dating app in 2024 before getting married in December 2025. What initially appeared to be a suicide case has now snowballed into a high-profile investigation after Twisha’s family accused the husband’s family of harassment, assault and attempts to suppress evidence.
According to purported WhatsApp and Instagram chats accessed by several media outlets, Twisha had spoken to friends about feeling “trapped”, missing home and struggling emotionally.
In one of the chats, she allegedly wrote: “I am trapped bro. Bas tu mat phasna. Can’t talk much. I will call when the time is right.”
A friend replied saying: “I am worried about you. I love you so much.”
Another conversation, dated May 7, showed Twisha, an MBA graduate, speaking about anxiety and her inability to settle into her new life after marriage.
“I have been under anxiety because I am sitting at home. I want to do something with my life. Shaadi makes your family, but you cannot stop working on yourself,” she allegedly wrote.
She also cautioned her friend against rushing into marriage, saying: “Shaadi ki khujli me shaadi mat karna. Soch samaj kar aage badhna.”
In another message, she said she missed home and her friends.
“Main theek hoon. Mujhe bas ghar ki bahut yaad aati hai,” she wrote.
Family demands second post-mortem at AIIMS Delhi
Twisha’s family has refused to conduct her last rites and is demanding a second autopsy at AIIMS Delhi. On Sunday, relatives staged a protest outside the residence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav in Bhopal.
The first autopsy, conducted at AIIMS Bhopal, reportedly stated that the cause of death was hanging. However, the report also noted simple injury marks on parts of her body.
Family members claimed Twisha had wanted to leave Bhopal and return to Noida. They also said she remained in touch with relatives till around 10 pm on the night before her death.
Speaking to media outlets, Twisha’s cousin Ashish Sharma alleged that the family had been “running from pillar to post” since reaching Bhopal after learning about her death.
“When we saw the body of my sister, the injuries that she was carrying, the continuous denial in admitting the crime, the repeated and continuous approach of the police to not get the FIR registered, the continuous struggle that we had, the entire family running from pillar to post, sometimes sitting in one thana, sometimes in the other thana, the women’s commission, the mahila thana, the Human Rights Commission, the office of the commissioner of the police, we were made to run from pillar to post,” he told NDTV.
Twisha’s brother Harshit Sharma, an Army officer, also alleged that police delayed action because of the influence of the accused family.
SIT probing dowry harassment allegations
Earlier, Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajneesh Kashyap, who is heading the SIT, confirmed that an FIR had been registered under provisions related to dowry death and harassment.
The FIR was lodged at Katara Hills Police Station against Samarth Singh and his mother Giribala Singh, who retired as a Bhopal district judge in 2023.
Officials said the SIT would probe allegations of physical assault, dowry harassment, and possible destruction of proof after Twisha’s death. As per current police records, the husband is absconding.
