In a dramatic turn of events, Ajitesh Kumar, husband of BJP MLA’s daughter, Sakshi, was on Monday allegedly roughed up by a group of unknown persons outside the Allahabad High Court.
The couple had arrived at the court, where a case relating their marriage was to be taken up.
After a shocking revelation by the Bareilly BJP MLA Rajesh Misra’s daughter that her father was after her life for marrying a Dalit youth Ajitesh Kumar, the woman on Thursday filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court, even as the Uttar Pradesh BJP legislator denied the accusation and said their age difference matters.
Sakshi had moved the high court seeking protection.
In her petition, Sakshi stated that she and her husband face threat to life from her father and other family members. She claimed to be a major (above 18 years of age) and said had married the man of her choice without any pressure.
The MLA, however, issued a statement saying that the allegations made by his daughter were “false”.
The attack on Kumar comes even as the couple is still under police protection.
Following the assault, the Allahabad High Court directed the SP (Prayagraj) to provide complete protection to the couple while travelling to whichever place they wanted to go to. Holding that their marriage was “valid”, the court also directed the state government to provide all the necessary security.
“As they were about to enter the courtroom Ajitesh was beaten while in police protection. Only Ajitesh was beaten up. It is not known who these people are, but it proves there is indeed a threat to their life for which they are seeking protection,” a lawyer was quoted as saying by ANI.
In a video that has gone viral, Sakshi was seen saying that because she married Ajitesh against the wishes of her family in a temple, she faces threat to her life from her father.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday asked senior party leaders and officials to submit a report on the controversy surrounding the marriage of Sakshi and Kumar.
The probe has been initiated after BJP MLA and father of Sakshi, Rajesh Misra claimed that it was a conspiracy to malign his image.
Meanwhile, a young couple who had come to the Allahabad High Court to seek protection after marriage was kidnapped at gunpoint by armed men from outside the court on Monday, police said.
The incident took place hours before the case of Sakshi Misra and Ajitesh Kumar was to be taken up by the same court.
However, the police have rescued the couple and the abductors have been nabbed.
According to eye-witnesses, the young couple was seen waiting outside the court since early morning when a black SUV came and pulled in the couple at gunpoint. The SUV bore the registration number UP80 which belongs to Agra district. Sources according to IANS, said that “Chairman” was written on the rear of the vehicle.
