Police in Odisha’s Bargarh district on Wednesday arrested six individuals and detained two children in conflict with law under relevant sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act after recovering a huge cache of banned codeine-based composition Eskuf cough syrup from them.
Acting on a tipoff, the Bargarh Town Police conducted a raid at an abandoned dwelling house on Katapali Road and seized the contraband besides apprehending the suspected drug peddlers, said Bargarh Superintendent of Police Prahlad Sahai Meena,
The police seized a consignment of contraband comprising 5,050 bottles of Eskuf syrup, along with Rs 76,700 cash and eight vehicles of different makes used in the illegal operation.
The arrested accused were the residents of the Bargarh and Sambalpur districts, indicating an organized inter-district drug trafficking network.
Further investigation is underway to trace forward and backward linkages and to identify other persons involved in the racket, the SP Meena added.
