The CSIR-National Aeronautics Laboratory, Bengaluru has completed the design phase of the 19-seater Saras MK II aircraft, achieving a significant milestone breakthrough in the country’s fast-growing aviation sector.
Union Minister of State (Independent charge), Science and Technology, Dr Jitendra Singh hailed the achievement, calling it a testament to India’s growing prowess in indigenous aircraft development.
With this, the prototype manufacturing phase will begin, followed by ground testing and flight trials.
How the Saras MK II could revolutionise aviation sector in India?
The milestone, according to Dr Singh, reinforces Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Atmanirbhar Bharat mission and accelerates the UDAN initiative, enhancing connectivity to remote and high-altitude regions with homegrown technology.
Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu said hailed the development as a major “breakthrough in domestic aerospace manufacturing”.
The aircraft will be equipped with pressurized cabin, glass cockpit, digital avionics, autopilot, and advanced flight-control systems.
It is being developed to improve regional connectivity by operating from smaller airports with lower operating costs.
The Saras MK II porject also strengthens India’s indigenous civil aviation capabilities.
The project “will further empower PM’s UDAN vision to connect our remotest and high-altitude airfields with ‘Made in India’ aircraft,” Kinjarapu added.
Huge congratulations to NAL on this historic milestone & best wishes for the prototype manufacturing phase!
