A 22-year-old youth lost his life after being hit by a JCB machine while riding a motorcycle in Central Delhi’s Ranjit Nagar in the early hours of Thursday, the Delhi Police said on Thursday.

The deceased, identified as Bobby, was hit by the JCB near the Shadipur Metro Station at approximately 5.58 in the morning.

Nidhin Valsan, Deputy Commissioner of Police, said, “Soon after being informed about the incident, we went to the crime scene and found a JCB bearing registration number from Haryana along with a sports bike and blood splattered on the road.”

Thereafter, Bobby was taken to the Acharya Bhikshu hospital in Moti Nagar, where he was declared dead by the attending doctor.

“With this, the crime team, along with the forensic experts, were called to the spot to conduct a thorough inspection of the crime scene,” DCP Valsan added.

“A case of rash and negligent driving was registered at the police station,” the DCP said, adding that the driver of the JCB is yet to be arrested.

An eyewitness told the police that Bobby allegedly tried to overtake the JCB from the right; at that point, the driver of the JCB suddenly made a right turn that led to Bobby getting trapped between the JCB and a roadside divider.

“The JCB driver immediately applied brakes, and Bobby fell off his vehicle, after which the driver got down to check him,” the eyewitness reportedly added in their statement.

After seeing the biker bleeding from his head, the driver fled the crime scene, he added.
