Himachal Pradesh has witnessed a steady decline in road accidents, with the number of cases dropping from 2,253 in 2023 to 2,147 in 2024, an official spokesperson said on Wednesday.

He attributed it to the success of the government’s focused approach and awareness campaigns that have yielded positive results. This downward trend underscores the government’s commitment to making roads safer through stricter enforcement, better monitoring, and extensive public awareness campaigns, he added.

According to official data, only 1,457 road accidents have been reported so far in 2025, further strengthening the state’s record of consistent improvement in road safety.

The decline has been achieved despite the state facing severe natural disasters such as landslides, floods, and cloudbursts in recent years.

The spokesperson further said that the reduction in accidents is a direct outcome of coordinated efforts across departments, timely interventions, and the adoption of modern road safety measures.

The government has also intensified patrolling, improved road signage, and encouraged public participation in safety initiatives, he added.

He said that road safety remains among the top priorities of the present government, and Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has directed all departments to take every possible step to minimize road accidents. The focus, the spokesperson added, is not just on reducing accident figures but on safeguarding human lives and ensuring safer mobility across the state.
