With DMK slipping to third place and BJP-AIADMK alliance regaining significant ground in Tamil Nadu, BJP MP from Bengaluru Central, PC Mohan on Monday took a sharp dig at state Deputy Chief Minister and DMK candidate from Chepauk–Thiruvallikeni, Udhayanidhi Stalin, saying the DMK leader wanted to eradicate Sanatana Dharma but now his own party has been eradicated.

“He wanted to eradicate Sanatana Dharma; now his own party has been eradicated,” the BJP leader said.

In 2023, Udhayanidhi Stalin, while speaking at a conference in Chennai, said ‘Sanatana’ (Sanatan Dharma) is like malaria and dengue, which should not be merely opposed but eradicated.

His remarks came as Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emerged as the single largest party in trends.

According to the official Election Commission of India trends, TVK was leading in 109 seats, just 9 short of the majority mark, which is 118 in the 234-member Legislative Assembly.

The AIADMK was ahead in 66 seats and the DMK and its allies were leading in just 59 seats.

If the trends hold, TVK is set to emerge as the single largest party and may even cross the majority mark.

Udhayanidhi Stalin, who was trailing in Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni in the initial rounds, was narrowly ahead of his TVK rival Selvam D in a neck-and-neck contest.
