A sub-inspector in Haryana Police, Anita Kundu, on Sunday become the first woman to scale Mount Everest from the Chinese side.

This is for the second time that Kundu, 29, has scaled the Mount Everest. She had earlier had scaled the highest peak from the Nepal side on May 18, 2013 and repeated the act on Sunday by hoisting the Tricolour on the Mount Everest from the Chinese side.

Belonging to a poor family in which shifted to Hisar about 11 years back, Kundu’s mother raised the family by selling milk after the demise of her father 11 years back.

She was earlier in 2015 forced to call off her attempt midway in when some of her team members suffered injuries after an earthquake.

Despite financial constraints and reportedly no help from the state police department, Kundu embarked on her second expedition to scale Mount Everest from the north side in Tibet on April 9.

She is reported to have arranged the funds required for the expedition on her own by borrowing Rs.20 lakh from private lenders. Her friends and well-wishers also pooled in Rs. 10 lakh.

She had reportedly applied to the police department for a loan of Rs.10 lakh  which has not been approved.
