‘Hard to imagine Delhi without Metro’: CM announces 7 new corridors under Phase V (B)

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, during her address at the Delhi Metro’s 32nd Foundation Day here, said that the system has become the national capital’s lifeline, a benchmark of efficiency and discipline.

Rekha Gupta announced a major expansion of the Delhi Metro network, adding that work under Phase IV and Phase V is progressing rapidly and preparations are underway to begin construction on seven new corridors under Phase V (B), which will further strengthen connectivity across the city.

Crediting the employees, officers and support staff and their commitment for this achievement of the Delhi Metro, she said their professionalism has made the system a globally recognised model of urban transit.

Gupta recounted how, despite initial challenges, the Metro earned public confidence through efficient operations and strict adherence to timelines and standards while establishing credibility within the administrative system. Today, running over 4,500 trips daily, the metro is serving more than 6.5 million passengers.

The successful execution of complex engineering works, including nearly 100 km of underground tunnels, reflects its strong technical capabilities and robust management, the CM said, adding, “It is now difficult to imagine Delhi without the Metro.”

To address the city’s pollution, CM Gupta said strengthening public transport is key to a sustainable solution to the problem, the Metro is playing a central role in this direction.

Emphasising financial discipline, the Chief Minister said every rupee invested in Metro projects is being utilised transparently and efficiently, with a long-term vision to ensure a modern and resilient transport system for Delhi.
