The three-day-old stalemate at the Damdama Sahib Gurdwara located in Nagrasu finally ended Tuesday evening after all the Nihangs who took the premises hostage on June 20 descended following persuasions by the administration and a group of Punjab based Nihang Sikhs that came from Punjab as special envoy to persuade them.
Three of the seven Nihangs who forcibly entered the third and fourth floors of the Gurdwara ahd took the premises hostage had alread climbed on Monday. Remaining four too descended on Tuesday evening after hectic parleys wirh the visiting team.
The dialogue with the visiting group of Nihangs was successful leading to a peaceful resolution. Following the stalemate was resolved district administration sent vehicles inside the Gurdwara premises to bring them out and manage other activities there.
The impasse ended on the fourth day after a group of angry Nihang Sikhs made fprced entry inside Nagrasu Gurudwara and took entire premises hostage.
They occupied the third and fourth floors of the building and were reluctant to come down unless their demand for release of arrested four fellowmen was met by the police and the administration. It’s notable that Chamoli police had arrested four Nihang Sikhs at Karnaprayag who clashed with local public and attacked them with swords. One of the victims sustained serious injury on his head and was admitted in a hospital in Dehradun.
