Additional Sessions Judge Krishan Kant Sharma’s son Dhruv, who was critically injured after being shot at by the judge’s security guard in Gurgaon on October 13, succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.

Dhruv, who was 18-year-old, breathed his last at 4 am on Tuesday at Medanta Hospital. The boy was earlier declared brain dead on October 15. He had been on life support since then.

The guard had also shot Kant’s wife, Ritu, on the same day. She died due to excessive bleeding on October 14, during treatment.

Ritu, 38, had sustained bullet injuries in her chest, while Dhruv was shot at in his head.

Judge Krishan Kant, who donated his wife’s organs, has decided to donate Dhruv’s organs too.

Accused Mahipal Singh (32), who is currently in police custody.

The incident took place on October 13, when the judge’s wife and son had gone to the Sector 49 Arcadia market in their car driven by Mahipal. According to the police, the accused lost his temper when Ritu and Dhruv scolded him for remaining untraceable for a long time, as they waited for him after finishing shopping. In a fit of rage, Mahipal allegedly opened fire at both of them.

Addressing the media after the incident, Deputy Commissioners of Police Sumit Kuhar and Sulochana Gajraj had said, “Upset over his absence, Ritu scolded Mahipal Singh while Dhruv asked him to hand over keys of the car. Angry over their behaviour, the guard first started beating Dhruv who was seated on the passenger seat. A few minutes later he shot at him twice.”

“The accused also beat up the judge’s wife before shooting at her,” Kuhar said.

Asked if the guard was harassed by the judge’s family, Kuhar said the killer told the interrogators that it was a “cold-blooded attack”.

The police officer said the accused was also involved in the business of running two app-based private taxis.

Mahipal was a constable with the Haryana Police. He had been posted as personal security guard of the judge for last two years.
