A constable of the special operations group (SOG), Amjid Ali Khan, was killed and two other cops were injured in a gunfight with Pakistani terrorists last night in the Soan village of Udhampur district.

Reports said that the SOG jawan lost his life in an ambush by the terrorists who were trapped in the thick forest. One terrorist is also believed to be injured in the exchange of fire.

A joint team of the Army, CRPF and SOG was engaged in combing the area since early morning on Tuesday when the counter-terror operation was resumed.

The body of the martyred cop was brought here and wreaths were laid by top police and civil officers.

The J&K Police stated, “Nalin Prabhat, DG-P, and All Ranks of J&K Police, salute the martyrdom of Ct Amjid Ali Khan, who made the supreme sacrifice, whilst combatting Pakistani terrorists, in the forest of Soan, Distt Udhampur. We share the pain and the grief of the martyr’s family.”

The White Knight Corps of the Indian Army said last evening that “In an intelligence-based operation, SOG and alert troops of the Indian Army have established contact with terrorists in the general area of Soan, Udhampur District. Fire exchanged with terrorists. Operation is in progress.”

Inspector General of Police (Jammu) BS Tuti said that “On a precise input from JKP, contact was established with terrorists at Village Soan, Majalta Udhampur. Joint team of SOG along with Army and CRPF on the job”.

“A very small SOG team engaged the terrorists! Combing of the forest has been impeded due to darkness and treacherous terrain”, the IGP said last night.

It is worth mentioning that the security forces have launched an operation to flush out Pakistani terrorists from the mountain areas of the Jammu division.
