Top Hizbul commander Sameer Tiger has been gunned down by security forces in a gunfight that had erupted at a village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday morning, reports said. Sameer Tiger, who was categorised as an A++ militant, took care of the terror recruitment for the Hizbul Mujahideen, it is learnt. His accomplice was also killed in the operation, reports said.

Earlier, a gunfight between militants and the security forces erupted on Monday morning in Pulwama.

As per reports, two security personnel were injured in the exchange of fire with the militants in Drabgam village. The conditions were made tougher for the security forces by a stone-pelting mob that was resisting the operation to flush out the holed up militants.

Police sources said the injured soldiers, one of them a Major, had been shifted to a hospital.

The gunfight in Drabgam village is going on.

“As the cordon was tightened, the militants fired at the security forces triggering the gunfight,” said an officer.

Reports coming in from the area said stone-pelting mob also clashed with the security forces. A few protesters have been injured.

The gunfight erupted after the security forces, including personnel from the Rashtriya Rifles (RR), the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the state police, cordoned off the village upon receiving a tip-off about the militants holed up in the area.

Mobile internet services have been suspended across Pulwama district.
