Chhattisgarh Finance Minister OP Choudhary on Thursday said that the recent GST reforms will strengthen the economy, increase consumer confidence and directly benefit households.

He was speaking during a market visit in Raipur, where he interacted with traders and consumers as part of a special state-wide campaign to ensure the benefits of GST rate cuts reach the public.

Accompanied by MLA Anuj Sharma, the minister said the state government’s top priority is to ensure the impact of GST reforms is felt at the ground level. “Officers of the state GST Department have been instructed to carry out regular inspections in markets and ensure that the benefits of tax reductions are passed on to consumers and not just reflected on paper,” Choudhary said.

He added that the ‘GST Savings Festival’, launched across the state on September 22 to coincide with Navratri, aims to make essential goods more affordable.

“GST reforms are not just a symbolic gesture but a concrete effort to improve people’s lives. This initiative will give momentum to the economy, strengthen consumer confidence, and provide a boost to trade,” the finance minister noted.

The reforms follow Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day announcement on simplifying and rationalising GST rates. Decisions taken at the 56th meeting of the GST Council came into effect nationwide on September 22.
